Bannerbear edits, animates and assembles media with AI and multi-step workflows. Placid is the lower-cost choice for plain image rendering.

Bannerbear vs Placid (2026): AI Editing, Video and Pricing
Contents

Facts on this page come from each company's public website, documentation, help center and changelog, checked on 25 October 2026. See How we compared for the method and sources.

TL;DR: Bannerbear and Placid both turn your templates into images, PDFs and videos through an API, no-code tools and AI assistants. Placid costs less for plain image generation, and it has an embeddable white-label editor and a mobile SDK. Bannerbear does more of the work inside the render: AI background removal and generation, face detection, AI voiceover, a deeper animation toolset, and multi-step workflows that run in one API call. Choose Placid if you need low-cost image volume or want to put an editor inside your own app. Choose Bannerbear if your pipeline needs AI image editing, produced video, or enterprise security controls.

    What both products do well

Before the differences, the common ground. Both products cover the core job well.

    • Template editor with responsive layers, text fitting, custom fonts and version history
    • Image API with synchronous and asynchronous rendering, and webhooks on completion
    • PDF output, including multi-page PDFs
    • Video from templates, with automatic subtitles
    • No-code generation: Bannerbear Forms and Placid Studio both let non-technical users fill in a form to create assets. Both also generate images from a URL with query parameters.
    • Integrations with Zapier, Make and Airtable
    • MCP server, so AI assistants such as Claude can create assets
    • Custom S3 storage for output, and team members with roles
    • Free trial with no credit card

If your need is "fill a template with data and get an image back", either product will do the job. The differences are in what happens around that render.

    AI image editing

Bannerbear applies AI inside the render. You can remove a photo's background, generate a new background from a text prompt, and crop around a face or the main subject automatically. It also has a built-in text-to-image tool with a choice of models (Flux Schnell, Flux 1.1 Pro, Nano Banana, GPT Image 2), which you can set per layer. These features use a separate AI credit pool, which is included with each plan (200 AI credits per month on Automate) and can be topped up.

Bannerbear Image API key features: multiple formats, resolution scaling, template versioning, transparent rendering, AI face detection, background removal, 100x batch rendering and synchronous rendering Bannerbear Image API features. Placid offers image filters and effects on its layers. Its ChatGPT integration can add DALL·E images to your designs. AI background removal, AI background generation and face detection are not listed on Placid's website as of October 2026.

What this means: if your source images are product photos, user uploads or team headshots, Bannerbear can clean and crop them in the same request that renders the final image. With Placid, you would prepare those images first, in a separate tool.

Bottom line: choose Bannerbear for e-commerce catalogs, marketplace listings, and any pipeline where the input photos are not ready to use.

    Video and animation

Both products generate video from templates, and both can add subtitles automatically.

Placid adds per-layer enter, active and exit animations, value transitions with fade and crossfade, video files inside picture layers, and merging of clips, intros and outros.

Bannerbear has a broader toolset around the video:

    • Keyframe timeline with easing, delay and hold controls, at 24, 30 or 60 fps
    • Lottie layers, per-word text effects and animated backgrounds
    • Transparent animations (MOV) to overlay on other video
    • AI voiceover from text
    • AI video generation with Seedance, Kling and Veo models
    • Video tools: trim, crop, resize, join, overlay, colour filters, audio, slideshows, GIF previews, thumbnails and cover art

Bannerbear Animation API key features: keyframe timeline, shared modifications, frame rate control, template conversion, Auto Animate, text effects, Lottie layers and responsive layers Bannerbear Animation API features. Source: bannerbear.com/v5/products/animation-api, captured 25 October 2026.

AI voiceover, Lottie layers, GIF previews and AI video generation are not listed on Placid's website as of October 2026. For trimming, Placid's API lists audio trimming and output size.

Bottom line: both work for templated social clips. Choose Bannerbear if your videos need narration, motion graphics, or editing steps after the render.

    Workflows and automation

Bannerbear Workflows chain image, animation and media-tool steps into one API endpoint. For example: render a template, add subtitles, add a voiceover, overlay an animation, then export. You build them in a visual builder, see each step's inputs and outputs in the run history, and can publish a workflow with its templates.

Bannerbear Workflows API key features: step chaining, declared inputs, mixed steps, run history, visual builder, bundled publishing, step references and per-step billing Bannerbear Workflows features. Source: bannerbear.com/v5/products/workflow-api, captured 25 October 2026.

Placid Actions send your generated assets to other apps, such as Airtable, Webflow and Ghost, with filter rules that decide when an action runs. Placid also works with Zapier, Make and n8n for automation. A native feature that chains generation steps in one call is not listed on Placid's website as of October 2026.

Bannerbear also has a batch endpoint that creates up to 100 images in one request. Placid's image API creates one image per request, and a batch endpoint is not listed.

Bottom line: choose Placid if you mainly need to publish assets into a CMS or database. Choose Bannerbear if producing one asset takes several processing steps.

Embedding and mobile: where Placid leads

Placid's Editor SDK is a web component of its template editor that you can put inside your own app, with theming, permission scopes, layer locking and JWT authentication. A white-label option removes Placid branding. Using the Editor SDK inside a SaaS product requires the VIP plan.

Placid Editor SDK: embed the template editor web component in internal tools or SaaS apps, theme it with brand colours, and configure permissions and locked layers Placid Editor SDK. Source: placid.app/solutions/editor-sdk, captured 25 October 2026.

Placid's Mobile SDK generates images on the device, with one license per app and platform, and the number of licenses depends on the plan.

Bannerbear has an embeddable editor on its older V3 platform, and it still works there. The current V5 platform does not include one. A mobile SDK is not listed for Bannerbear.

Bottom line: if your users will design or edit templates inside your product, or you need generation inside a mobile app, Placid is the better fit.

    Integrations

Both connect to Zapier, Make and Airtable, and both have an MCP server.

    • Bannerbear lists 50+ native data-source integrations with field mapping and write-back, including Notion, Shopify, Stripe, HubSpot, WordPress, Webflow and Ghost, plus a Figma plugin that converts frames into templates.
    • Placid lists n8n, a WordPress plugin that creates social cards, and Actions that publish to Webflow and Ghost.

A Figma plugin is not listed on Placid's website, as of October 2026. Both products work with n8n.

    Cost for the same job

Standard-size images (up to 4,000 px), one format, on the cheapest plan that fits:

    Images per month Bannerbear Placid
    1,000 $49 (Automate) $39 (Pro)
    10,000 $149 (Scale) $89 (Business)
    25,000 $247 (Scale) $89 (Business)
    100,000 $458 (Enterprise) $249 (VIP)

For plain image generation, Placid costs less at every volume. Placid also lets unused credits roll over.

The comparison changes when your pipeline needs the AI features in the first section. Those are included in Bannerbear's plans through its AI credit pool. AI background removal, background generation and face detection are not listed on Placid's website, so with Placid you would add a separate service for them, at its own cost.

We do not compare video prices, because the two products measure video differently. Bannerbear charges 1 credit plus 2 credits per second of animation. Placid charges 10 credits per 10 seconds of video.

    Who should choose Placid

Placid is the right choice if:

    • You generate large volumes of standard images and price is the main factor
    • You want to embed a template editor in your own SaaS product, with your own branding
    • You need image generation inside a mobile app
    • You mainly publish assets to WordPress, Webflow or Ghost
    • You work with print and need CMYK output with ICC profiles
    • You want unused credits to roll over

    Who should choose Bannerbear

Bannerbear is built for teams who:

    • Start from photos that need cleanup: product images, user uploads, headshots
    • Produce video with narration, motion graphics, Lottie animation or post-render editing
    • Want one API call to run a multi-step pipeline instead of connecting several tools
    • Need SSO, audit logs or zero data retention for a security review
    • Design in Figma and want to turn frames into templates
    • Generate many images per request with a batch endpoint
    • Want answers from real people: email and chat support from two full-time human support staff, who answer at almost any hour, plus priority support on Enterprise
    • Want a provider with a track record: Bannerbear launched in January 2020, publishes a 99.9% uptime figure with a public status page, and runs Enterprise plans of up to 2,000,000 credits per month

    How we compared

    • Sources: each company's marketing website and pricing page, API documentation, help center and changelog. For Placid, the changelog is hosted on Headway (headwayapp.co/placid-changelog). For Bannerbear, the API comparison used its published OpenAPI file.
    • Date: all facts were checked on 25 October 2026. Products change; check the current pages before you decide.
    • "Not listed" means we searched the company's own sites for the feature, including a full crawl of Placid's sitemap for the main claims on this page, and found no mention. It is not proof that the feature does not exist.
    • Screenshots show public pages as they appeared on the capture date in each caption.
    • Pricing comes from the public pricing pages. Placid's prices are rendered by JavaScript on its pricing page, and we read them from the page's script.
    • What we did not measure: support response times, ease of use, rendering speed and reliability. Public reviews for both products were too few to summarize.
