Facts on this page come from each company's public website, documentation, help center and pricing page, checked on 25 October 2026. See How we compared for the method and sources.
TL;DR: Pixelixe and Bannerbear both turn templates into images and PDFs through an API, no-code tools and AI assistants. Pixelixe costs less once you go above 1,000 images a month, and it gives you a white-label editor you can embed in your own product. It also has an AI Designer that drafts an editable banner layout from a prompt. Bannerbear makes video and animation as well as images, runs AI image editing inside the render API, and chains several steps into a workflow that runs from one API call. Choose Pixelixe for low-cost static graphics or an editor inside your app. Choose Bannerbear if your pipeline needs video, AI edits called from code, or multi-step automation.

What both products do well
Both products cover the core job of filling a template with data and returning an image.
- Template editor with responsive layers, text fitting and custom fonts, plus a template library to start from
- Image API that returns the finished image in the same request, with transparent PNG output and PDF output
- Batch rendering: Bannerbear takes up to 100 images in one request. Pixelixe renders every format of a Design Set in one call.
- Template management through the API, with error codes and metadata on each render
- Integrations with Zapier, Make and Airtable
- MCP server and ChatGPT access, so AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT can create graphics
- Image filters and effects on layers in the editor
- AI allowance in every paid plan (AI credits on Bannerbear, AI actions on Pixelixe)
- Free trial with no credit card
If you need "fill a template, get a static image back", either product will do it. The differences are in video, in where the AI runs, in automation, and in price.
Video and animation
Bannerbear makes video and animation from templates, as well as images:
- Keyframe timeline with easing, delay and hold controls, at 24, 30 or 60 fps, plus animation presets and Auto Animate, which builds an opening timeline from the layout
- Per-word text effects, animated backgrounds and Lottie layers
- Transparent animations to overlay on other video, and conversion of an image template into an animation template
- Auto subtitles and AI voiceover
- AI video generation with Seedance, Kling and Veo models
- Video tools: trim, crop, resize, join, overlay, colour filters, audio, slideshows, GIF previews, thumbnails and cover art

Pixelixe is an image and graphic product. Video and animation output is not listed on Pixelixe's website (as of October 2026). Its listed outputs are PNG, JPEG, PDF and HTML. Its image filters apply to images; filters for video are not listed.
What this means: if your campaign needs a static banner and a short video version of it, Bannerbear can make both from the same account. With Pixelixe, you would make the video in a separate tool.
Bottom line: for static social images and display ads, both work. Choose Bannerbear if you also need social video, subtitled clips, narration or animated overlays.
AI image editing and generation
Both products have AI features, but they sit in different places.
Pixelixe's AI runs in its Studio editor. The AI Designer makes a first banner layout from a prompt and keeps it editable in Studio. Bannerbear does not list a tool like this. Pixelixe Studio also has an AI background removal button in the editor, and it can generate an image or a background from a prompt in the editor, on paid plans (these use AI actions). No AI model names and no API endpoint for these features are listed.

Bannerbear's AI runs inside the render API, so you can call it from code as each image renders. It can remove a photo's background, generate a new background from a prompt, and crop around a face or the main subject. Its text-to-image tool lets you choose the model (Flux Schnell, Flux 1.1 Pro, Nano Banana, GPT Image 2) per layer. Face and subject detection is not listed on Pixelixe's website (as of October 2026).
Bannerbear Image API features. Source: bannerbear.com/v5/products/image-api, captured 25 October 2026.
What this means: if a designer uses AI to start or clean up one graphic at a time, Pixelixe's editor tools fit that work. If thousands of product photos or user uploads must be cleaned and cropped automatically as they render, Bannerbear does it in the same API request.
Bottom line: choose Pixelixe for AI-assisted design in an editor. Choose Bannerbear for AI edits that run automatically in your rendering pipeline.
Workflows and automation
Bannerbear Workflows chain image, animation and media-tool steps into one API endpoint. For example: render a template, add subtitles, add a voiceover, overlay an animation, then export. You build them in a visual builder, see each step's inputs and outputs in the run history, and can publish a workflow with its templates.
Bannerbear Workflows features. Source: bannerbear.com/v5/products/workflow-api, captured 25 October 2026.
Bannerbear also starts generation without code: hosted Forms, and Instant URLs that render an image from link parameters (Scale plan and up). Its 50+ native data-source integrations map fields and write results back to the source.
Pixelixe hands automation to other tools. No built-in workflow builder is listed. Pixelixe chains steps through Make, Zapier, n8n and its MCP server, and its docs describe a path from JSON to Graphic to the Image Automation API. Hosted forms and native data-source integrations with write-back are not listed on Pixelixe's website (as of October 2026); Pixelixe publishes automation-tool guides and MCP connectors instead.
Bottom line: if one render is the whole job, Pixelixe plus an automation tool works. If producing one asset takes several steps, Bannerbear runs them in one call and keeps a history of each run.
Design and editing: where Pixelixe leads
Both products have a template editor with responsive layers, text fitting, custom fonts and a template library. Pixelixe adds more tools around designing and editing:
White-label editor you can embed. Pixelixe's editor runs in an iframe on your own domain, with your logo and colours, in graphic, photo or PDF mode. On save it can download the file, email it, or post a webhook with PNG, HTML and PDF links to your server. It has 6+ interface languages and is included from the Automate plan. Pixelixe states it is not supported on mobile devices and needs an iframe at least 1,000 px wide.
Pixelixe white-label editor. Source: pixelixe.com/white-label-image-editor.html, captured 25 October 2026.
Bannerbear has an embeddable editor on its older V3 platform, and it still works there. The current V5 platform does not include one.
Pixelixe also lists these, which Bannerbear does not list (as of October 2026):
- JSON to Graphic API: one request creates an editable graphic from JSON, with gradients, filters and shadows
- Image processing API: filter presets and effects, plus compress, resize, crop, flip and rotate, on any image URL
- Brand Kit for logos, colours, fonts and templates, localized variants across markets and languages, and saved documents in folders
- API payload tester: an editor button that builds the API request from a template so you can send it and see the result
Spreadsheet generation: in Pixelixe, each spreadsheet row makes one image variation, with CSV import and export. Bannerbear generates from rows through its Airtable and Notion integrations and its batch API.
Open Graph images: Pixelixe has a page for per-route Open Graph images with Next.js support. Bannerbear's Instant URLs render Open Graph images from a link, on Scale and up.
Bottom line: if your users will design or edit graphics inside your product, or a designer works mainly in the editor, Pixelixe is the better fit.
Integrations
Both connect to Zapier, Make and Airtable, and both have an MCP server that works with ChatGPT and Claude.
- Bannerbear lists 50+ native data-source integrations with field mapping and write-back, a Ghost integration, and Figma and Sketch plugins that turn designs into templates.
- Pixelixe lists an n8n workflow and an n8n MCP page, and it works with Bubble.io through its API and editor webhook.
Figma, Sketch and Ghost integrations are not listed on Pixelixe's website. A Bubble integration is not listed on Bannerbear's, as of October 2026. Both products work with n8n.
Developer experience
Both have a REST API with token authentication, an OpenAPI file and an MCP server. The details differ.
| Bannerbear | Pixelixe | |
|---|---|---|
| API specification | Full OpenAPI 3.1 file for the REST API | OpenAPI file covers 4 endpoints; prose docs describe more |
| Official API libraries | Ruby, Node, Python, PHP (and an MCP package) | No named client libraries; docs give cURL, JavaScript and Python snippets. Pixelixe lists an HTML5 editor SDK for embedding the editor |
| API keys | Scoped keys (22+ scopes), origin allowlists, workspace-scoped keys | One API key, plus a public key for the editor embed |
| Long jobs | Queue, with polling or a webhook | The render API returns the image in the response; no job-status endpoint listed |
| Webhooks | Signed events when an image, batch, tool job, workflow run or animation finishes | Webhook for the embedded editor's save event; no render-completed callback listed |
| Request logs in the dashboard | Yes | Not listed |
| Rate limits | 60 POST requests per 10 seconds; 429 when exceeded | Not stated on the pages read |
| MCP server | Hosted and local, OAuth | Remote, 7 tools, API key or OAuth |
| Help center | 93 articles | 4 hub pages |
| Public changelog | Yes, near-monthly in 2026 (latest 18 September 2026) | No public changelog found |
| Uptime | 99.9% trailing 12-month claim and a public status page | Not listed |
These are what each company states, not measured quality. "No public changelog found" does not mean Pixelixe does not release updates.
Bannerbear also lists custom S3 storage for output, template version pinning, resolution scaling, print DPI, image quality settings, multi-page PDFs and CMYK conversion for PDFs. These are not listed on Pixelixe's website (as of October 2026). Pixelixe offers a choice of JPEG or PNG and a separate Compress API in place of a quality setting, and it exports a PDF of a single document.
Bottom line: for a high-volume or long-running pipeline that needs callbacks, scoped keys and request logs, Bannerbear lists more controls. For simple synchronous rendering, Pixelixe's API covers the job.
Security and enterprise
| Bannerbear | Pixelixe | |
|---|---|---|
| Multiple workspaces | Yes | Not listed |
| Team members with roles | Scale plan and up | Not listed |
| Two-factor authentication | Scale plan and up | Not listed |
| Single sign-on (SSO) | Enterprise plan | Not listed |
| Audit logs | Enterprise plan | Not listed |
| Zero data retention | Enterprise plan | Not listed |
| Restrict team sign-up to your email domain | Yes | Not listed |
| Priority support | Enterprise plan | Not listed |
| GDPR and DPA | Standard DPA on request; data hosted in the USA | Terms say a DPA may apply to white-label deployments |
Users of Pixelixe's white-label editor are your own customers inside your product. They are not team seats in a Pixelixe account.
Bottom line: if your security review asks for SSO, audit logs or team roles, Bannerbear lists them on its Scale and Enterprise plans. Ask Pixelixe directly before you rule it out.

Cost for the same job
How we count: on Bannerbear, 1 API credit makes 1 image in 1 output format at scale 1. Pixelixe plans give "automated documents" per month and do not define the unit on the pages we read. We assume 1 automated document is 1 rendered image in 1 format. The table holds only under that assumption. Pixelixe's API starts at Automate, so the $12 Create plan is not in the table.
Standard images, one format, scale 1, on the cheapest plan that fits, monthly prices:
| Images per month | Bannerbear | Pixelixe | Costs less |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $49 (Automate) | $59 (Automate) | Bannerbear |
| 1,000 | $49 (Automate) | $59 (Automate) | Bannerbear |
| 2,500 | $149 (Scale) | $59 (Automate) | Pixelixe |
| 10,000 | $149 (Scale) | $59 (Automate) | Pixelixe |
| 20,000 | $198 (Scale) | $59 (Automate) | Pixelixe |
| 40,000 | $296 (Scale) | $119 (Scale) | Pixelixe |
| 50,000 | $299 (Enterprise) | $119 (Scale) | Pixelixe |
Bannerbear costs less up to 1,000 images a month. Above that, Pixelixe costs much less for plain image generation: for example, $59 against $198 at 20,000 images.
The comparison changes when your pipeline needs more than static images. Video, animation and multi-step workflows are not listed on Pixelixe's website at any price, and Pixelixe lists its AI image editing only inside its editor, not as an API feature. A Pixelixe user who needs those features in an automated pipeline would add a separate tool, at its own cost.
Bannerbear's AI features use a separate pool of AI credits. Pixelixe's AI actions pay for its editor AI features (AI Designer, AI background, AI image and AI background removal). The two units buy different things, so we do not compare them. We also do not compare video prices, because Pixelixe does not list video.

How we compared
- Sources: each company's marketing website, pricing page, API documentation, OpenAPI file and help center. For Pixelixe, we read all 147 pages in its sitemap plus docs/v2, docs/mcp, llms.txt, the OpenAPI file, the FAQ, the help center, 15 blog posts and the Studio app pages, and ran three or more web searches for each of the eight main claims we checked again. For Bannerbear, we also read its changelog.
- Date: all facts were checked on 25 October 2026. Products change; check the current pages before you decide.
- "Not listed" means we searched the company's own sites for the feature and found no mention. It is not proof that the feature does not exist.
- Pricing comes from the public pricing pages. Pixelixe's API docs page shows $49 for Automate in its structured data; we used the $59 shown on the pricing page. Pixelixe's pricing page and FAQ list a 10-day trial and no free plan, while its help center lists a free Studio version with 6 downloads per month.
